my photographer :)
Helen Levitt was born on Aug. 31, 1913, in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn.
•Finding high school unstimulating, Ms. Levitt dropped out during her senior year.
•She had a fascination with sounds, dance, books and foreign films.
•Flooding herself with art exhibits, photography, theater performances and film created for Helen a personal photo-learning experience.
•The previous pictures are some of the most famous works that have been taken by Helen. She was best known for taking pictures of New York sidewalks and the children that were living their young lives on them.
•My favorite one happens to be the one of the girl holding the flower. She seems angry yet she is holding a form of life. Her expression is so unique, from her clothes to the flower type, to the heavy wooden door she is placed in front of.
•Another one of my favorites is the one of the young African American boy holding the gun. Not only is the shot of him so adorable but also shows some intense expressions in his face, even like a slightly depressed look. The gun in his hand might be a foreshadow of what he will be or even how his race has suffered and it is shown through him.
